The boys’ basketball team has started the 2016-2017 season with three very close games. Their first two scheduled games have been postponed because the team started practice a week late, November 21st, due to the football championships. Because of this, they’re still working on the fundamentals and getting into the season.

Coach Sohn said, “We’ve been practicing things such as rebounding, scoring, and keeping control of the ball. Those are things that will help us win games.”

Their first game was on December 2 against South O’Brien. The boys lost 40-46. During this game Jordan Kyle had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bret Sohn had 9 points, and Zach Heikens had 6 points. Keegan Carpenter also had 6 points and 12 rebounds.

The boys then played again on December 6 against Unity Christian. The score was 40-42, and Jordan led with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan also scored his 1,000th point during this game. Bret had 11 points, Keegan had 7, and Zach had 5.

On December 9, they played Trinity Christian and lost 53-56. Jordan also led with 14 points this game and 7 rebounds. Zach had 12 points, and Bret had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Cale Hellinga added 7 points, and Keegan had 4 points and 6 rebounds.

The boys brought home their first win on December 13 against MMC-RU. Great job!

The boys out for basketball this year are the following: Jordan Kyle, Cale Hellinga, Keegan Carpenter, Trevor Gunderson, Zach Heikens, Bret Sohn, Bryce Perkins, Charlie Ingham, Justus Lindsey, Isaac Ihnen, Julian Burdorf, Edgar Tapia, Abdulla Elbuytari, Dawson Miller, Jaden Rueter, Owen Sidles, and Adrian Martin. We hope everyone has a fun basketball season.
