Tis the season

This year the middle school/high school winter concert took place on December 5th, and there was also a performance after Project 60 on November 30th. The 6th grade band performed the songs “Simple Gifts” and “Christmas in the Kitchen”. The 7th and 8th grade band played “The Tempest”, “Carol of the Bells/Greensleeves”, and “Little Czech Rhapsody”. Miss Gladfelter said, “I was very pleased with how the middle school performed.”

The middle school choir sang many joyous songs. They first sang “Jubilate Deo”. They also sang “Slow Rockin’ Christmas”, “Song of Peace”, “Wherever Music Lives (Must be Paradise)”, and “I Saw Three Ships”. Mrs. Greve picks songs that she thinks the audience will enjoy and the kids will be good and challenged with. She also wants them to learn something from the pieces that they sing. Mrs. Greve said, “We are fortunate to have good singers. They are taught so well with Mrs. Anderson in the elementary. That helps make my job easier.”

The high school band performed “Northstar Overture” and “Carol of the Drum”. The jazz band played “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and “I’ll be Home for Christmas”. Ms. Gladfelter enjoyed performing with them; she thinks they did really well. She said, “I select songs based on the instruments that I have and the strengths of our band. Also, I select them based on the season.”

The high school choir sang four songs. They sang “Come to the Music”, “Glow”, “Heaven Everywhere”, and ended with the traditional “Peace, Peace”. Mrs. Greve said, “I love Christmas music and the lights and decorations. I never get tired of the carols, and I love singing ‘Peace, Peace’ with the candles at the end of every winter concert.”

Merry Christmas!
