Updates on FFA

The FFA members have been quite busy with different events and projects. Some of the events are Soil Judging, Farm Safety Day, and the Greenhand Camp. The students in FFA enjoy going to these events and will continue to do so as long as they can.

FFA members also host a cheese and fruit sale. This sale started September 30th and will end on October 13th. By purchasing the FFA member’s products, you can help with the funds that will pay for the students to be able to go to National Convention.

National Convention is every other year. The students who will be going to National Convention are Zach Heikens, Caleb Kracht, Jeffrey Bunkers, and Isaac Ihnen. These students will go on various tours and will also hear from speakers about multiple careers.

At Soil Judging, our FFA members placed 14th out of 17th place. Those who went were Jeffrey Bunkers, Koltyn Bradley, and Caleb Kracht. They all enjoyed their time at Soil Judging.

During Farm Safety Day at the elementary, there were demonstrations of ATV’s, lawnmowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws. Students also saw different farm equipment such as grain bins, augers, and power take-off shafts (PTO). They also saw pinch points, pulleys and gears. For Farm Safety Day, students made different power points about what information was at Farm Safety Day.

The FFA first year members that went to Greenhand Camp were Abdulla Elbuytari, Tucker Elder, and Isaac Ihnen. While they were there, they learned how to use or improve their leadership and communication skills in an effective way. The students also learned about team building and how important it is to society.

Students did a nice job at the Northwest District FFA Livestock Judging contest at the Clay County Fair on September 17th. Isaac Ihnen, Nathan Davis, Abdulla Elbuytari, and Tucker Elder placed 3rd out of 41 teams. Isaac also placed 5th individually and Nathan placed 7th individually. Another team consisting of Easton Brevik, Keegan Bradley, Rylan Ehret, and Caleb Nicks placed 13th as a team.
