Harris Lake Park

Home of the Wolves

A Whole New Year

As we kick up the new year, we’re all excited to welcome the new staff members of Harris-Lake Park Schools. Mallory Wollenburg is a 5th grade teacher who loves doing what she does. She has always wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a kindergarten student.

 Mrs Wollenburg 3

Mrs. Wollenburg grew up in Arnolds Park and graduated from the Okoboji High School.  She then went on to college at Buena Vista University. Her degree is in K-6 Elementary classroom, K-8 Reading Endorsement, and K-8 Social Studies Endorsement. Mrs. Wollenburg became more motivated to teach children by her several great educators over the years. She wants to make a difference in the lives of young people, and this is the way she dreamed of doing it.

During college, she did student teaching here at the Harris-Lake Park School District and at HMS School District. Mrs. Wollenburg student taught at H-LP in 5th grade from August to October 2015 and then at HMS from October to December in 2nd grade.

This year, she teaches 5th grade reading, D.O.L., and spelling. Mrs. Wollenburg is hoping to incor-porate some charts, strategies, and group work that she had learned while getting her endorse-ment. She enjoys teaching Reading/Language Arts the most because she took a lot of classes that targeted this area while getting her reading endorsement. She’s spent a lot of time working on innovative ideas that can take learning to a new level and build a strong foundation for reading skills that will continue to build as these students progress through their education.

Mrs. Wollenburg and her husband Jeremy live in Arnold’s Park.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and their families. They like to go on walks and play Scrabble; they also enjoy boating and lake time, hanging out with their nieces and nephews, and cheering on the Cyclones!

Mrs. Wollenburg’s goals for this year are to find ways outside of traditional worksheet and home-work. She wants to build skills with her students. She also wants to do writer’s workshop to see
the children do some writing because this skill is important to her and can turn into great reading skills.

“Our first week went GREAT!” said Mrs. Wollenburg. She enjoys spending time with her students and can’t wait to accomplish her goals through-out the year!
